DJ Buddy TV

Aside from mad amateur mixtapes from when I first started, I've never recorded anything I've done. Short of recording my club sets, there's just something about the energy of a live performance that can't be captured, even if done verbatim.

Video is a different story. I never got into the whole Stickam/streaming Internet TV "movement" but the format is awesome. Viewers can log in and watch you mix it up and chat it up with each other about how badly you suck. Cool!

Next Wednesday (06.03) I'll be doing a guest spot on DJ Buddy TV, droppin some beats and fielding some questions (no curveballs, please!). So mark your calendars and remember to tune in; you can all finally get together and talk smack without having to actually go to the club =)

True Blues

Unless the price is too good to pass up or the sentimental value is through the roof, I'm not some "OG Elitist"; I'll rock some retro Jordans as long as its close enough to the originals. Screw all the small-air-bubble, no "Nike Air", and inaccurate cement print talk - they're getting worn anyways.

These AJ IIIs are dropping in August. I'm coppin a pair so I can cross em off the list and save myself a few hundred bucks.

What Is A DJ If He Can't (Use His Laptop)?

This interesting vid of Questlove and his sick record collection got me to thinking about how Serato has changed the game and opened up DJing to the masses.

Lemme jump on this soapbox real quick...

Few people that are just now getting into DJing will ever have that vinyl experience. They won't know what it's like to go from record shop to record shop, diggin in .25 cent bins and coming out with dusty fingers and a bag full of gems. They won't know what its like to mix without waveforms. They'll even be missing out on the simple experience of taking a record off the turntable, searching in the bag for a new record, and putting that one on the turntable.

So while your laptop DJing skills may be nice (let's be honest tho, it's really hard to still suck with a laptop), let's see you get down with a bag of real records. Noob.

Sneak of The Week: Ep 7

If there's one shoe in my collection that still looks way ahead of it's time, it's gotta be these Penny Foamposites.

When they first dropped, I must've gone to the Glendale Galleria Footlocker a dozen times and stared at them. After all that, I think I ended up with some Air Missions (looking for a DS pair, holla!) but thankfully Nike decided to retro the Foams in 2007. Shouts to Proper!

Joint of The Day 05.27.09: Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire (Remix)

I haven't looked up the lyrics yet but "Sex On Fire" might just be Derek Jeter's anthem.

This remix by Richard Sarkey and Peter Sar is pretty damn awesome and instantly makes this a must-play at Top 40 spots.

What's that? Jeter prefers Dancehall? Well Sean Paul's got you Derek!

Nerd Mode Activated

Aside from a little P90x and the NBA Playoffs this week, this is what you can catch me doing:

For the regular readers, this shouldn't come as a shock.

So I apologize in advance for the lack of updates folks, the Aeron and my beast of a Samsung will be getting most of the attention for now.

Going to get real nice with BJ Penn first so don't hit me up on XBL just yet!

OSHA-Tested, ReFresh Approved

HALO was CRACKIN on Friday!

That usually means a party in the DJ booth and this past event did not disappoint. If a good DJ can rock a party, then what's to be said about DJs who can do it with 10 drunk people all up in my elbow space?

Look who came out!

Difficult working conditions I tell ya...

Big ups to "MC" Roial 1! Thanks for holding it down!

Regardless, it was fun as hell and I can't wait for the next one!

Penthouse Pimpin

Besides sitting courtside next to Jack or with Jessica Alba on your lap (when they play the Warriors), where's the next best place to watch the Lakers play? Probably in the 100 or 200 section, right? Unfortunately, we're in a recession and NBA Playoff tickets aren't the best things to drop money on at the moment.

Good thing DJ Buzz invited me to come out to spin with him at Staples Center for the AM570 booth.

For those following my Twitter updates, here's the bootleg Pau Gasol that I was talking about!

After a quick set, it was off to the 98.7/AM570 penthouse suite to watch the Lakers serve a 40 point beatdown on the Rockets.

Basketball-themed foyer. Nice...

Raffling off some swag. I didn't win anything =/

On the balcony, a spinning class with a view

One last parting shot from 26 floors up. Not bad for $22,000 a month, eh?

Thanks to DJ Buzz, DJ Wicked 1, AM570, and The Lakers Nation!

Joint of The Day 05.13.09: Jeremih - Birthday Sex

It's awesome when an R&B song just speaks on the obvious. Who doesn't have a birthday celebration and expect to get some at the end of the night?!

Right after "I'll Make Love To You", I'm going to blame this track for more than a few unexpected pregnancies.

San Jo with The Do

San Jose isn't exactly NYC but I wasn't trying to go hard this weekend either. I wanted a nice, chill weekend and that's exactly what The Do planned out.

Doubletree, thanks for the room at the end of hall - DJ ReFresh

We hit up the infamous Santana Row, which is essentially Gaslamp District-meets-Americana/The Grove, and got a little taste of SJ nightlife.

Purple hair: Sek-seh. Affliction shirts: Not so much

Around that, we kicked it with her fam, hit up different restaurants and she schooled me on Vietnamese cuisine.

These were deeelicious!

Ok, you go first and show me how it's done

Here we go

She really knocked me down (word to Keri Hilson) with the move she pulled on Sunday

Finally!

A little picnic basket action...

Can she plan a Sunday lunch or what?!

Another great weekend, thanks "homie"! See you on the 4th for 5 days! Haha

Stay Thirsty My Friends

You've heard all the hyperbole:

- "He once had an awkward moment, just to see what it felt like."
- "He lives vicariously through himself."
- "He can slam a revolving door." Oh wait, I think that's Chuck Norris.

Anyway...

It's a birthday bash for The Most Interesting Man In The World!

This Friday is going to be HUGE! So huge in fact, that they're opening up both Halo and Ritual and combining them into one massive venue. I'll be rockin prime time spins on the Halo side so come out!

And that is NOT an exaggeration =)

Joint of The Day 05.12.09: Drake - Best I Ever Had

Another banger by Drake. Wowzerz. I f*ckin LOVE this track.

Get Sick With The Swine Flu

If you're gonna be safe, there's no reason you can't look fly at the same time. Here are six companies that could set the bar for pandemic couture. It was time for hipsters to retire that stupid ass shemagh anyway. Step your H1N1 mask game up!

Nike Sportswear: Flywire-equipped for light weight and support.

Diamond Supply Co: Cuz I gotta have something to match my Dunks

L-R-G: Full face steelo. Can't wait for the Jason Voorhies edition.

Rogue Status: For those still on that all-over print tip.

Sneak of The Week: Ep 6

Generally speaking, sneaker collabos get the gas face. They're usually synonymous with terms like "hypebeast", "limited", "re-sellers", and "overpriced".

However, they're sometimes necessary. Take the Air Stab for example. Nike resurrects it to much hype with this FootPatrol collaboration. I thought I was gonna have a new model to give my AM90s a run but unfortunately (fortunately for my wallet), every colorway that followed sucked ass.

So only one pair of Stabs for me. Just as well; quality over quantity.

Joint of The Day 05.06.09: DJ Shadow - Organ Donor

I don't care what else DJ Shadow comes out with from here on out: Organ Donor is his opus. The intro is immediately recognizable, the drums are head nodding, even the bridge conjures images of The Phantom just mashing on the keys, waiting for lightning to strike.

Mr. Holland would be proud.

I need to see this song performed live!

I Need Head(phones)

After about 10 years of DJing, I've gone through a few pairs of cans.

The Sony MDR-V700DJ was my first pair of true DJ-style headphones. Before these, I'd never think to pay $100 for headphones. The first series was awesome and everyone was rocking them. Unfortunately, build quality has declined and now they're more infamous for breaking as soon as you take them out of the box.

After the Sonys, I tried the Technics RP-DH1200. These were a grad gift from Row and even sicker than the first series Sony. The build was solid but I was pretty reckless with these so they didn't last too long. A little more TLC and I'm sure I would still have them.

Now I have my eye on the Pioneer HDJ-2000. All magnesium build and supposedly indestructible. A little on the expensive side but I never skimp on work-related equipment. A hands-on is def mandatory for me to make my final decision.

Final decision and review will be posted. Stay tuned.

Joint of The Day 05.05.09: Smoke Jumpers - My Flow So Tight

Electro gets topical and speaks out on Chris Brown, money, and domestic violence. Woah!

The People's Champ

Congratulations homeboy. With the weight of an entire nation on your back, you rose to the occasion and silenced all the critics and naysayers...again. You had Filipinos wylin out world-wide, feeling like they could just go around, 300 Spartan-kicking people down black holes. Now bring on Floyd Mayweather Jr!!!

On that note, let the Photoshop-ing begin...

Nothing better than fight parties with my family. Even better when they get sponsored with alcohol and swag!

Ice: Check. San Miguel: Check. Now where's the pulutan?!

Combine together like Voltron
